-OUR STORY!
It all started on New Year's day 2007, when long time Piedmont Avenue neighborhood residents Noella and Joe couldn't find a magazine to read with their brunch at Au Coquelet in Berkeley. They had always wanted to open a shop, but could never decide what kind. That day they came up with the bright idea of opening a magazine store!
At the time, Noella was working as a sound engineer, but had spent many previous years managing records stores, while Joe was a record and book connoisseur who had spent the 90's working for Tower Records in Sacramento in the magazine department (fondly known as "mag hell") with the legendary Doug Biggert. Doug worked for Tower throughout the 90's and was responsible for bringing in all of the crazy, wild mags! He gave Joe & Noella's idea the thumbs up and helped them with advice on navigating throughout the magazine world. Armed with this experience and little else, Noella and Joe went on a gut feeling, and in June of 2007, ISSUES opened its doors!
ISSUES has quickly become a neighborhood hot spot and strives to not only carry the most extensive magazine selections, but also to be extensively involved in the community! ISSUES hosts quarterly events such as art shows and neighborhood parties on its own and in conjunction with other local organizations and stores.
